There's a shortage of volunteers over at the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Montreal — a campaign is underway to recruit as many as 200 of them.
Executive director Maxime Bergeron-Laurencelle said they normally try to recruit 350-400 volunteers every year but they're falling short of their goals, especially male volunteers.
Bergeron-Laurencelle said it can be rewarding for adults who choose to mentor a child or just hang around and chill with them.
"It helps them just to give something to somebody else or to have a different point of view on life," said Bergeron-Laurencelle in an interview with CJAD 800 News.
And Bergeron-Laurencelle said it really helps the youth.
"Kids get more confidence in themselves," said Bergeron-Laurencelle.
"They get more involved in their school, they get better relationships with others."
Bergeron-Laurencelle said depending on the program, you can volunteer an hour a week or a few hours every two weeks.
