Benoit Dorais is leaving Coalition Montreal, announcing on Monday he will sit as an independent when city council resumes in the new year.
Coalition Montreal has seen many party members defect to that of Mayor Denis Coderre following the death of party founder Marcel Coté.
Dorais says he has no plans to jump ship anywhere, for now.
In part because of Dorais' resignation, the party will not field candidates in the upcoming 2017 municipal election, president of Coalition Montreal Laurent Blanchard said in a statement.
