The owner and founder of the iconic Montreal restaurant, Beauty's, has died.
Hymie Sckolnick was 96 years old.
Sckolnick and his wife Freda opened the popular eatery at the corner of St. Urbain and Mont Royal Avenue in 1942.
It's been run by the Sckolnick family for 3 generations.
Montreal Gazette columnist and CJAD 800 contributor Bill Brownstein says part of the restaurant's charm was the elder Sckolnick, who continued to help run the operation and greet customers, even though he was long past retirement age.
"What was so special about Beauty's was Hymie Sckolnick, the owner who started the place in 1942. He was the meeter and greeter. He was the glue that brought so many people there," Brownstein reminisced.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11am at Paperman and Sons at 3888 Jean Talon Street West.
