Bangladesh's Prime Minister-designate Sheikh Hasina seems set to withstand the reverberating calls to investigate serious allegations of widespread irregularities in Sunday's election that was dominated by her coalition.
Congratulatory messages have been flowing from around the world, helping Hasina claim legitimacy after loud protests from opposition parties.
The governments of India, China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Qatar, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Bhutan and Pakistan have all congratulated Hasina. The United States and the European Union have both said they want to continue to co-operate.
Hasina's Awami League is all set to form government for a third consecutive time after winning 257 of the 300 seats in Parliament. On Thursday, the country's president invited her to form the cabinet that will take office on Monday.
An analyst told the Associated Press that the U.N. "would be happy'' to see Hasina continue at the helm of the country.
