Are you a working parent with a child under the age of five? Do you find the work-family balancing act extremely difficult?
You are not alone.
The Institut de la statistique du Québec's latest study found that when asked how hard it is to find an acceptable balance in their life one in five responded it is very hard. A little over one third of working parents said they have moderate difficulty finding a way to do both jobs.
The Institute surveyed nearly 15,000 Quebecers with at least one child 0 to five-years-old.
Half of the polled parents believe they spend the majority of their day running around, while 37 per cent find themselves physically exhausted by dinner time.
Mothers, parents with a university degree, and those who consider their income not enough to meet the needs of their family are all more likely to have a difficult time balancing their family and professional lives.
Others who found themselves with overly stressed with Quebecers working more than 40 hours per week, those without a flexible work schedule, and parents without paid leave for family reasons.
The study found for mothers and fathers, the higher the level of conflict the more likely a person is to consider they're unhealthy and question their abilities as a parent. They were also the most likely to shout and get angry at least once per day.
Also of note, researchers found the more the work-family conflict is present, the less likely a parent is to play with their child on a daily basis.
