The Montreal man charged in connection with the Concordia University bomb threat will have to stay behind bars for the weekend since his bail hearing was put off until Monday.
Hisham Saadi, wearing a grey tshirt and handcuffs, appeared in court for about a minute and didn't say anything or express any emotion.
His lawyer Caroline Braun said her client is "extremely devastated by the charges."
Saadi is charged with inciting fears of terrorism, uttering threats and public mischief in connection with the bomb threat that forced Wednesday's evacuation of three buildings at Concordia's downtown campus.
The threat targeted Muslim students and mentioned setting off explosives.
Police did not find any explosives or indendiary devices onsite or at the Côte-des-Neiges apartment where Saadi was arrested early Thursday.
Crown prosecutor Lucie Martineau is opposing bail.
"We object to the release of the accused because we wanted to be sure regarding the public's safety," said Martineau.
Braun told the judge late in the afternoon they would have to put off the hearing until Monday because they wouldn't have time today since they needed about an hour and a half for the case.
Martineau said an investigator would be testifying for them and the defence would have witnesses as well.
Braun was seen speaking with two men who reportedly were Saadi's friends.
