The bail hearing finally got underway today for the man charged in connection with last week's bomb threat at Concordia University.
Hisham Saadi is charged with inciting fears of terrorism, uttering threats and public mischief.
The crown's only witness was a Montreal police investigator. The defence had friends of Saadi testify. None of the testimony can be reported because of a publication ban requested by the defence.
Saadi, wearing a grey t-shirt and handcuffs, sat still in the prisoner's dock and looked straight ahead at the police investigator as he was testifying.
The crown prosecutor had said they opposed Saadi's release on bail for public security reasons.
Saadi's bail hearing was put off twice: once because it got too late in the day to begin and the second time because the defence received a lot of new evidence from the crown.
A bomb threat targetting Muslim students last Wednesday forced the evacuation of three of Concordia's downtown buildings. No explosives or incendiary devices were found.
Saadi was arrested Thursday overnight at his Côte-des-Neiges apartment. Police didn't find explosives or incendiary devices there either.
Closing arguments will be heard tomorrow.
