Could a traffic battle be brewing between Baie d'Urfé and Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue?
Baie d'Urfé is concerned that Ste Anne's new ban on left turns onto Highway 20 will mean more traffic for them.
Pro-mayor of Baie d'Urfé Janet Ryan told CJAD 800 they weren't even consulted about the new measure that bans motorists from turning left from Anciens-Combattants Blvd. onto Highway 20 during afternoon rush hour Monday to Friday.
"We normally have very good relations with Ste-Anne and with all of our sister municipalities but in this case, something went wrong," said Ryan.
Ste-Anne said in a statement that they want to end the daily clog of traffic in their town that sometimes prevented emergency vehicles from circulating.
But Ryan said the likely detour near Morgan and Ste Anne is always jammed.
"And if we're going to see a whole lot more traffic added to it, obviously things are going to get a lot worse," said Ryan.
And if it does, Ryan said they'll keep an eye on it and take necessary measures to prevent any resulting new traffic jams but didn't specify.
The new measure takes effect September 17.
