The 49-year-old woman charged after a baby was left last week in a burning building in the east end of the city is facing a new charge and has had her bail hearing put off.
Josée Milot is now charged with obstruction of police work — she's accused of providing a false name to police when arrested.
Milot is already charged with child abandonment, arson by criminal negligence and failing to provide the necessities of life to a child. Milot entered a not guilty plea to all the charges.
Police rescued a one-year-old girl left alone in an apartment on fire in Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve August 31.
Milot's lawyer is putting his client's bail hearing on hold until a judge rules on an unrelated case of breach of conditions which returns to court next week.
Defence lawyer Antonio Cabral also wants to see if his client is eligible for therapy and that will also factor into any request for bail.
"Like therapy for her consumption problem which she had in the past. We want to deal with that issue, she wants to deal with that issue," Cabral told reporters.
Milot, wearing a black shirt and handcuffs, appeared in court briefly and looked nervous and alert.
She remains detained until the next court appearance.
