This won't be much of a holiday weekend for construction workers on the Decarie or the Ville-Marie Expressway — or the motorists who have to use them.
The work to tear down what's left of the St. Jacques overpass above the Decarie Expressway will resume on Friday night and continue right through the weekend.
From Friday at 10 p.m. through Tuesday at 5 a.m., all northbound lanes of Hwy. 15 through the Turcot, and right up to the Sherbrooke St. exit, will be shut down — as well as the ramps connecting the Decarie Expressway to the eastbound Ville-Marie.
Transport Quebec is advising motorists to just stay away from the area if at all possible.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the Ville-Marie, crews will work through the weekend to remove the paralumes, or sun-blocking concrete beams, from the Ville-Marie and Viger tunnels — and that means those tunnels will be completely closed from 11:59 p.m. Friday until Tuesday at 5 a.m.
Drivers heading east on the VIlle-Marie will be forced off at Mountain St., while it will be closed in the westbound direction between Panet St. (where the Viger tunnel starts) and the Lucien-L'Allier entrance.
Once the paralumes are taken down, crews will then begin the work of covering over the highway east of the tunnel. A park will eventually be created over it.
