Provincial police think a fatal collision northeast of Montreal around midnight may have involved a deliberate act.
A car traveling on Highway 158 near Joliette swerved out of its lane and into the path of an oncoming truck.
The car's driver was rescued from the wreck, which burst into flame, but nothing could be done for his passenger, a woman in her fifties who died.
There is a report that the man has a record for conjugal violence and the SQ says he may have deliberately swerved into the truck's path to take his own life or that of his passenger.
He was seriously hurt and is under police guard in hospital.
Police are searching two homes in connection with the crash.
