Quebec Health minister Gaetan Barrette wanted to prove that meals at the province's public long-term care facilities are good.
He had lunch with members of the media on Wednesday.
The invitation was made following reports the food is less than ideal.
Also invited, the opposition, but it didn't attend saying it was a publicity stunt.
Maya Johnson covered the story for CTV.
"I think the consensus, amongst the opposition at least, was that this may look very presentable and pallatable at an event staged for the media, but they questioned whether these are the actual kinds of meals being served at residences right now" said Johnson.
Barrette said menus have improved, adding they're being implemeted gradually throughout Quebec.
One nutrionist was reported saying she was impressed, but some reporters, apparently, were not.
