The opening of the multi-billion dollar CHUM super hospital to patients could be delayed for up to a year.
The Gazette reports Construction Santé Montréal, the private consortium in charge of the project, won’t be able to deliver the superhospital for a Nov. 6th deadline
A spokesperson for Construction Santé Montréal, says in an email "the Nov. 6 target proved to be too ambitious and did not allow for any leeway, given the project’s complexity,”
Stéphane Mailhot goes on to say "the presentation of building floors to the independent certifier for review is well underway, and despite the continuing gains over the last few months, the delay accumulated during the excavation (for the building foundation) has not been fully recovered, mainly due to the continued drive to achieve high quality required in every aspect.”
No new deadline has been set.
The delay is expected to cost tens of millions of dollars in lost revenue.
Health Minister Gaétan Barrette says there's no way taxpayers will cover the bill for the delay since the super hospital is being built as a public-private partnership.
This is not the first delay in opening the superhospital.
