The annual Moving Day is just three days away - and it's now complicated by COVID-19.
Ted Wright of the Westmount Legal Clinic says he's getting lots of COVID-related calls for this Moving Day.
"Whoever they've hired to move, whatever trucks they're going to use, they don't know anything about the employees, they don't know anything about how the trucks have been cleaned and the place they're moving to, they don't have any idea whether or not the people there have had any contact with COVID-19 in the past few weeks," said Wright in an interview with CJAD 800.
"They're worried about whether or not they'll get COVID-19 and whether it will transfer to any members of their family."
Wright said while landlords are supposed to be responsible for cleaning up the place before new tenants move, you can't take that for granted.
"They have to bring their own gloves, masks and cleaning supplies, sufficient for whatever they're going to do - they have to bring that with them," said Wright.
"And they have to make sure that everybody involved in the move has gloves available, masks available and that they're being used."
Wright said they're advising people who are moving to make sure everyone helping is symptom-free and that professional movers take all the necessary precautions.
