The man found dead in Anjou on the weekend was reportedly considered a rising star in Montreal's underworld.
The body of 47-year old Nicola Di Marco, also known as Big Nick, was found in the parking lot of a condo building Saturday morning near the corner of Blvd. des Galeries D'Anjou and MB Jodoin.
The Journal de Montreal reported, among other things, Di Marco ran an east end gaming house on Jean Talon street.
Crime expert Pierre de Champlain told the newspaper he's somewhat surprised by the killing.
He said Di Marco wasn't a "big player in the mafia", that he was more like a "good soldier."
Di Marco was said to have been close to reputed mob boss Giuseppe de Vito, who was murdered while in custody in 2013.
Di Marco's body contained signs of violence, but it wasn't exactly clear how he died.
His death is Montreal's 5th murder of 2017.
