He won a gold medal in the 4×100 metres relay at the 1996 Olympics, and was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
But did you know he has a secret talent?
Surin plays piano... well enough to be part of a special concert with the Orchestre symponique de Laval!
The OSL hosts a recurring series honouring prominent Lavallois, and as Surin is a longtime resident, they asked him to be this season's honouree.
But not satisfied with the mere distinction, Surin will take to the stage to play Beethoven's haunting Für Elise. This sports-infused program, led by conductor Alain Trudel also includes John Williams' Olympic Fanfare and music by Tchaikovsky.
Hear his conversation with Andrew about how he balanced athletics and music as a kid... and why piano practicing is close to his heart.
