The man at the heart of an Amber Alert in September has had a murder charge upgraded and another one added.
Ugo Fredette was charged on Monday with second-degree murder in the death of Yvon Lacasse, a 71-year-old man whose body was found near Arundel. Police said Fredette stole Lacasse’s car while on the run during the Amber Alert.
He also had the charge in the death of his former partner Véronique Barbe upgraded to first-degree murder from second-degree murder.
Crown prosecutors said that they have completed their investigation and are ready to bring the charges to trial.
