Bussey, a native Newfoundlander, earns a living in the oil business in Fort McMurray. in 2016, his eating habits were out of control; fast food was his crutch.
'I couldn't get enough in me,' he told Andrew Carter over the phone. 'I would wake up and grab a bag of chips for breakfast.'
When a ferocious wildfire threatened Fort Mac, many residents were evacuated by plane. Bussey needed two seats.
He was haunted by the idea that another person's evacuation would be delayed. But it was the call Bussey needed to change.
Now 330 pounds lighter, Bussey was independently published a book about his experiences, titled Through Thick & Thin: How a wildfire was a wakeup call to transform my life .
