If you're looking for an air conditioner these days, you are not alone.
Several stores report being sold out during this heatwave.
Lyndsey Bryson and her 16-year-old cat, Lt. Uhura have not been able to sleep in their Parc Avenue apartment in this heat.
"It hasn't been that easy on her. I don't think we've ever lived in an apartment that got as hot as this one does," said Bryson in an interview with CJAD 800.
"Yesterday I decided to bite the bullet and figure out how to get some air conditioning."
But it wasn't that simple.
"It started to become really apparent to me that none of the stores were carrying any stock," said Bryson.
That includes some major stores in the West Island: the Home Hardware on Pierrefonds Blvd. said they're only getting an order of big units this Friday; the Canadian Tire in Kirkland is getting small window units Wednesday and bigger ones in ten days; the Costco in Pointe Claire is deciding on their order strategy.
Electro Aide said that on the morning after the Canada Day long weekend, they got about 100 calls for service and installation of central air conditioning when normally they'd get about 20 calls or so.
Bryson lucked out on Facebook Marketplace and found a unit.
"It was a long day of just searching Kijiji and messaging people," said Bryson.
"In the end I'm glad I have it, very grateful to have it."
