It looks as though Montreal is heading for that part of the winter where things just get — well, weird.
After several days of minus-double digit temperatures — with a 15-centimetre snow storm thrown in for good measure — there will be a warmup over the next couple of days. But as always happens in Montreal in January, there's a catch.
We can expect to see more snow on Tuesday evening and overnight, as the temperature will shoot up to -9 by Wednesday morning. By late Wednesday afternoon, that snow is expected to begin transitioning to freezing rain as the temperature begins to edge closer to the freezing mark.
On Thursday afternoon, we can expect to see temperatures around +4 degrees, with more snow or rain, before another cold front moves in.
Friday's high is expected to be a seasonal -6 degrees, with temperatures hovering around, or a little below, seasonal values for the rest of the weekend.
The average high for a late January day in Montreal is -6, while the overnight low should be around -15.
