A violent collision between two vehicles on Highway 30 West in Chateauguay killed four people overnight.
According to provincial police, shortly after midnight one of the cars got on the westbound highway at chemin de la Haute-Rivière in the wrong direction and hit the other car head on.
"There was a car that went the wrong way on highway 30," says Surete du Quebec spokesperson Daniel Thibodeau. "Entered the highway in the westbound lanes heading eastbound and hit a frontal collision with a vehicle."
The driver, an 80-year-old man, along with an 81-year-old woman and 15-year-old boy were all killed in the collision.
The other vehicle was carrying a family of five from Ontario. A 56-year-old woman was killed, the others were taken to hospital with serious injuries, all are expected to recover.
The westbound highway was closed at km 38 for much of Tuesday morning.
