After five long months, Agnes the gibbon was returned to an Ontario zoo over the weekend.
The small ape was one of three animals stolen from the Elmvale Jungle Zoo, northwest of Barrie, at the end of May.
A lemur named J.C., also abducted, was found in a cage abandoned by the side of a road north of Montreal in June. This led investigators to believe that Agnes and an 18-inch tortoise named Stanley (the third animal kidnapped), were somewhere in Quebec.
On Thursday Agnes was found by police in Mascouche. Investigators did not offer any details of how the gibbon was found or tracked to the Quebec town, only saying Agnes was recovered on a warrant.
Two Ontario men were arrested in June and charged with breaking and entering and theft related to the incident.
"We are happy to have Agnes home with her family. In the coming weeks, she will be slowly re-introduced to her cousins, Jasmine and Gracie, and reintegrated back into the zoo community," Michel Persi, with the Elmvale Jungle Zoo, told CTV News.
Stanley the tortoise still hasn't been found.
