If you're a fan of the new Lime e-scooters and were thinking of buying your own, think again.
It turns out - they're illegal on Montreal roads and will get you a $170 dollar ticket.
That's something a Bell Media employee found out the hard way.
He says he was taking his scooter to work every day in early July and was obeying the traffics laws when he was stopped by police on July 24.
"One morning a cop motions me to pull over and says, "This by the way, what you're doing, is illegal, riding scooters. I said, well, scooters are coming to Montreal, you can rent them and he goes, yeah, it's part of a pilot project and you're not part of that project," he told CJAD 800.
The Lime electric scooter pilot project officially launched in Montreal August 13.
The auto insurance board's (SAAQ) Sophie Roy confirmed to CJAD 800 that only Lime e-scooters are permitted on the road and if you're caught driving any other kind of e-scooter you will be fined.
