The four Montrealers who were the victims of an abusive arrest in 2012 by ex-police officer Stéfanie Trudeau - better known as Officer 728 - will be getting compensation.
An out-of-court settlement with the city of Montreal means they will get $75,0000.
"We're happy we're finished with this story," said Rudi Occhietti.
Occhietti was the one who got arrested first by Trudeau who spotted him drinking a beer on the sidewalk outside his apartment, Trudeau throwing him to the ground and slapping handcuffs on him.
His friend Serge Lavoie was the one who got the chokehold by Trudeau in a video that went viral. Simon Pagé and Karen Molina were also abusively arrested.
Trudeau was found guilty of assault and sentenced to one year's probation and community service.
The four sued for almost $400,000.
Occhietti said the settlement is not totally satisfactory and sends a weak message to the city.
"There are still behaviours in the city police that we wish would disappear. We fear that this settlement might not be enough to signify to the city that things must be addressed," said Occhietti in an interview with CJAD 800 News.
But after six years and as much as $200,000 in legal fees,
"At least it puts the whole story behind us," said Occhietti .
Montreal mayor Valerie Plante said everyone agreed on the settlement.
"At this point I'm satisfied that we were able to find a solution to a very unfortunate situation," Plante told CJAD 800 News.
