Montreal firefighters were very busy Monday into Tuesday with two fires that have left dozens of residents unsure of when they will be returning home.
The first blaze broke out inside the Place Riviera on Riviera St., near Riverdale Blvd. in Pierrefonds shortly after 7:00 P.M.
The flames spread quickly. Within half an hour the Montreal fire department declared it a general alarm fire.
About 70 of the complex's 225 units were directly affected by the flames, though more suffered water damage as crews spent more than four hours battling the blaze.
Montreal police were called in to help evacuate the building.
There were no major injuries but two people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Fire investigators will return to scene Tuesday in order to determine the cause of the blaze.
A couple of hours later firefighters were called to a duplex on Lacombe Ave. near Légaré St. in Côte-Des-Neiges.
At about 2:30 A.M. a fire broke out inside a shed in the backyard and spread to the home, causing considerable damage.
No one was hurt.
The Montreal police arson squad was called in after traces of an accelerant were found at the scene.
