It was shaky end to the weekend off the coast of Vancouver Island, B.C. as three large earthquakes struck shortly before midnight.
The first quake, a magnitude 6.5, was detected at about 10:40 P.M. local time. Just about 40 minutes later a magnitude 6.8 quake was recorded by the United States Geological Survey.
A third quake, a magnitude 6.5, was also recorded just before midnight, not far from the previous two.
A magnitude-4.4 aftershock from the first quake was also recorded shortly before midnight.
All three occurred about 210 kilometers west of Vancouver Island at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Because of the horizontal movement there were no tsunami warnings following the earthquakes.
There have been no reports of any damage caused by the quakes, and there were only a handful of people on Vancouver Island and a couple others in Vancouver who felt the shaking.
