The Quebec government is spending $15M on studies to see which public transit projects will help you get around the Montreal-area and beyond faster and more efficiently in the future.
The money will analyze nine projects including:
- yellow metro line extension in Longueuil
- pink metro line, as proposed by Montreal mayor Valérie Plante
- orange metro line extension to Laval from Côte Vertu
- Notre Dame Boulevard express bus link between the North Shore and downtown Montreal
Quebec Transport Minister André Fortin said a metro extension to the West Island is not on the table because the other projects were expressed as priorities by the mayors in the area and that the planned light rail train will serve the West Island.
Fortin said mayors will have a big say in what projects go ahead since they know the priorities and needs of the community.
Fortin said once they figure out issues such as ridership and what project will have the most impact in which area, they can work out costs.
Most of the studies could take up to a year and a half to complete while others for projects such as reserved bus lanes can be done sooner.
