A 10-year-old boy is safe and sound, after being rescued from the icy waters of the Lachine Canal by police officers and firefighters.
Police say on Wednesday evening, a passerby called 9-1-1 to report a young boy had slid down a sheet of ice and into the canal.
The patch of ice he landed on gave way, but he managed to pull himself out of the water and onto a stronger patch of ice and snow, while he waited for help.
Police threw him a life preserver and some cables, while firefighters managed to bring him back to shore, unhurt.
