An east Montreal hospital is receiving nearly two-billion dollars for major renovations.
Quebec Health minister Gaetan Barette made the announcement Friday, saying Maisonneueve-Roemount hospital, which is 64-years old, is getting 1.8-billion dollars for a 10-year renovation and expansion project.
Barrette said the hospital, which had only fields around it when it was built, will receive 25-million immediately.
Administrators will decide where to spend much of the money and one condition is that some is spent on an integrated cancer centre.
The hospital has struggled to keep up with growth, suffering from electrical and mechanical malfunctions in recent years.
